Development of an Educational Game Application to Enhance Fraction and Mixed-Number Operations among Sixth-Grade Students

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) develop a game-based application to enhance sixth-grade students’ knowledge of fraction and mixed-number addition, subtraction, and multiplication; (2) evaluate the quality of the developed application; (3) compare students’ learning outcomes before and after using the application; and (4) examine students’ satisfaction with the application. The research instruments included the educational game application, a knowledge achievement test, content and media quality evaluation forms, and a student satisfaction questionnaire. The sample consisted of 30 sixth-grade students from Naluang School, Thung Khru District, Bangkok, during the first semester of the 2025 academic year. The participants were selected through simple random sampling using classroom lottery selection. The results indicated that students’ posttest scores were significantly higher than their pretest scores. The mean pretest score was 5.87 (S.D. = 3.06), while the mean posttest score was 9.27 (S.D. = 3.40). The content quality of the application, evaluated by three content experts, was rated at a good level ( equation = 4.30, S.D. = 0.56), whereas the media quality, evaluated by three media experts, was rated at a very good level ( equation = 4.59, S.D. = 0.38). In addition, students reported the highest level of satisfaction with the application ( equation= 4.52, S.D. = 0.73). These findings suggest that the developed game application is appropriate and effective as a learning medium for enhancing sixth-grade students’ knowledge of fraction and mixed-number operations.
