This correlation-comparative study was based on the interactionism model as the conceptual research framework. The study aimed at a comparison of dedication-study behavior between first- and other-generation university students. The samples consisted of 606 who is the first-generation university students and the other-generation university students. Data was obtained by multi-stage sampling method. The research consisted 12 measurements in the form of summated rating scales. The reliability of alpha coefficient of each measure was between .67 to .90.
results of the One-way ANOVA revealed the other-generation university studets have dedication-study behavior more than the first-generation university students. Multiple regression analysis results revealed that all 10 predictors from the groups of the situational factor, the psychological trait, and the psychological state, can be operated for prediction on dedication-study behavior 49.6% in the first-generation university students group. The important predictors in descending order were need for achievement, the favorable attitude toward learning. Multiple regression analysis results can be operated for prediction on dedication-study behavior 36.4% in the other-generation university students group. The important predictors in descending order were need for achievement, social support from friends/seniors. The at-risk groups were the first-generation university students who is low-grade point average. The results from this study can shed the light on the development at-risk groups of students and can be a basis for further research.
