การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อทดสอบและพัฒนาแบบจำลองสมการโครงสร้างความสัมพันธ์เชิงสาเหตุปัจจัยจิตสังคม ที่มีอิทธิพลต่อพฤติกรรมการกินผิดปกติของผู้หญิงไทย ในเขตกรุงเทพมหานครและปริมณฑล กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ
ผู้หญิงไทย โดยการสุ่มแบบสองขั้นตอน (Two Stage Sampling) จำนวน 1,000 คน แบ่งเป็น 2 กลุ่ม คือ 1) กลุ่มวัยรุ่นตอนปลาย คือ นักศึกษาผู้หญิง ช่วงอายุ 18-24 ปี ของมหาวิทยาลัยทั้งภาครัฐและเอกชน จำนวน 500 คน และ 2) วัยผู้ใหญ่ตอนต้น ช่วงอายุ 25-40 ปี ที่ทำงานในเขตกรุงเทพมหานครและปริมณฑล จำนวน 500 คน เครื่องมือวัดในการวิจัยได้ผ่านการตรวจสอบความเที่ยงตรงเชิงโครงสร้าง มีค่าความเชื่อมั่นอยู่ระหว่าง .870-.917 การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้วย
การวิเคราะห์ความสัมพันธ์ เชิงสาเหตุ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า แบบจำลองโครงสร้างความสัมพันธ์เชิงสาเหตุปัจจัยจิตสังคมที่มีอิทธิพลต่อพฤติกรรมการกินผิดปกติของผู้หญิงไทย มีความกลมกลืนกับข้อมูลเชิงประจักษ์ (c2=356.70, df=102, p=.000, GFI=.95, RMSEA=.075, SRMR=.018, CFI=.96, TLI=.98,Relative c2=3.49) โดยปัจจัยที่มีอิทธิพลต่อพฤติกรรมการกินผิดปกติ คือ การตัดสินใจแสดงพฤติกรรมการกินผิดปกติ ตัวแบบจากสื่อของการมีรูปร่างสวยงาม
เจตคติที่มีต่อพฤติกรรมการกินผิดปกติ การเข้าถึงแหล่งบริการที่เอื้อต่อการมีรูปร่างสวยงาม การรับรู้ความสามารถตนเองในการจัดการการมีรูปร่างสวยงาม การสนับสนุนทางสังคมจากกลุ่มเพื่อนในเรื่องการมีรูปร่างสวยงาม มีค่าอิทธิพล เท่ากับ .74, .24, .19, .18, .15 และ .15 ตามลำดับ ยกเว้นรายได้ของครอบครัว และมีอิทธิพลทางอ้อมโดยผ่านการตัดสินใจแสดงพฤติกรรมการกินผิดปกติ โดยตัวแปรเชิงสาเหตุดังที่กล่าวมาทั้งหมดร่วมกันอธิบายความแปรปรวนของตัวแปรพฤติกรรมการกินผิดปกตได้ร้อยละ 79
