The Effect of Integrated Cognitive Behavior Therapy Counseling with Art on Reduction of Depression among Female Prisoners.

This experimental research has an aim to compare the effectiveness of the program between the integrated cognitive behavior therapy counseling with art and cognitive behavior therapy counseling in reducing depression among the female prisoners. The inclusion criteria for the sample included being female prisoners whose ages ranged from 18-75 years, had depression scores classified in the moderate level (17-30scores) by using Beck Depression Inventory and voluntarily participated in this study. The 20 participants were randomly assigned into the group of integrated cognitive behavior therapy counseling with art and cognitive behavior therapy counseling group. The results revealed that the depression scores among the female prisoners in the group of integrated cognitive behavior therapy counseling with art were significantly lower than those in the cognitive behavior therapy counseling group at posttest and follow-up phases at level .50. This study results suggested that in the use of counseling through cognitive and behavioral therapy to reduce depression, the counselors should also integrate arts. This would be more effective in reducing depression.
