The development of technical eclecticism group counseling on perceived stigma among family patients with schizophrenia

There were two-phase of this research, 1) Study the perception of stigma of the patient's family members Schizophrenia and 2) Study the effect of using a Technical Eclecticism Group Counseling program and methodology on perceptions of stigma among family members of schizophrenia patients. The research was divided into 2 phases. Phase 1, the researcher perception study the stigma of family members of schizophrenia patients in the Eastern region sample group including 420 family members of schizophrenia patients in the eastern region. The second phase was to study the effect of using a of using a Technical Eclecticism Group Counseling program and methodology on perceptions of stigma among family members of schizophrenia patients. The sample group includes 24 family members of schizophrenia patients in Chachoengsao province who had scores on the stigma perception scale of moderate level or higher were divided into the experimental group number of 12 of 12 and the control group number of 12. The research instruments were 29 items of stigma recognition form among family members of schizophrenia patients were found to be a Content validity more than .780 for each item, Reliability value of 0.91, The researcher then conducted a Group Counseling program with family members of the schizophrenic patient according to the developed program. The control group did not receive counseling and lead a normal life.
The research found that 1) The level of perception of stigma of family members of schizophrenia patients in the sample group moderate with a total mean of 3.06 and in each component the effective component had the highest average. has a mean of 3.13, 2) The effect of using the Technical Eclecticism Group Counseling program with methodological techniques on the perception of stigma among family members in schizophrenia patients. The mean scores of perceived stigma in the post-trial and follow-up periods were significantly lower than those in the pre-trial period, at the .05 level. Family members of schizophrenic patients who were counseled through the Technical Eclecticism Group Counseling program had a mean score on perceived stigma in the post-trial period. and the follow-up period was lower than family members of schizophrenia patients without counseling. There was a statistically significant difference at the .05 level.
