An Integration of the Five Precepts for Improving the Life-quality of the Communal People in Samut Songkhram Province

Abstract

This research on “An Integration of the Five Precepts for Improving the Life-quality of the Communal People in Samut Songkhram Province” consists of the following objectives: 1) to study life-living in accordance with the 5 precepts of the communal people in Samut Songkhram Province; 2) to study principle of the 5 precepts for improving life-quality; and 3) to study integration of the 5 precepts for improving the life-quality of the communal people in Samut Songkhram Province. It is employed by qualitative research, in which data were collected by studying the documents, related researches and in-depth interviews. The collected data were analysed and presented by an analytical description.

The research findings revealed that: as for life-living in accordance with the 5 precepts in daily life of the communal people in Samut Songkhram Province, it is a cooperation of all in community to drive the Communities Preserving Five Precepts Project continuously. And also to follow the five precepts in daily life enables to develop life-quality be better. And the integration of the 5 precepts for improving the life-quality of the communal people in Samut Songkhram Province is a cooperation between temples, community, and government in proceeding the social activities engaged by the Five Precepts Project as well as Dhamma principles supporting the development of life-quality integrated with the community's activities as follow: 1) Life insurance: it is to apply Sāraṇῑyadhamma and to support harmony as well as to protect rights in order to reduce the threat to life; 2) Property Insurance: it is to apply Gihisukha Principle and setting up monetary fund or welfare for helping people in order to reduce the stealing problems in community; 3) Family Security: it is to apply Gharāvāsa-Dhamma Principle and to promote family relationships in order to reduce the problem of sexual harassment; 4) Social Security: it is to apply Saṅgahavatthu-Dhamma Principle and to promote carefulness of speech etiquette in community in order to reduce problem of deception and conflicts in the community; and 5) Health Insurance: it is to apply the Vuḍḍhi-Dhamma Principle and to promote the reduction and abandonment of narcotics in order to reduce drug problems as well as the ruinous way of life's source in the community that is to drive the sustainable development of people's life-quality in the community of Samut Songkhram Province and to support the living together with sustainable love, harmony, peacefulness and happiness.
