Sexual Fluidity and Literary Representation A Comparative Analysis of Prasertsak Padmarid’s Kibad and Ladrs’s Ankamkarun
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research compares gender fluidity in "Kee Bad" by Prasertsak Padmarit and "An Kam Karun" by Ladrs. It analyses character identities before and after disclosing their sexual orientation, focusing on self-expression, self-perception, family, and social roles—including their status as son/daughter, husband/wife, parent, and in society.
The study found that the characters in both novels exhibited gender identities that did not align with their assigned sex at birth, and clearly displayed gender fluidity. Prior to coming out, the characters often faced confusion, discomfort, and pressure from family and societal values, preventing them from fully expressing their true selves. However, after coming out, the characters demonstrated increased courage and self-confidence, even as they continued to face limitations and societal challenges. Furthermore, both novels reflected that masculinity and femininity are not static but are adaptable and fluid depending on life experiences and social contexts.
