Abstract
Thai script and orthographic style found on the inscription of Wat Phra Yuen, Lamphun Province. Include consonants, vowels, tonal markers, and diacritical marks. There are 33 consonants: ก ข ฃ ค ฅ ฆ ง จ ฉ ช ซ ญ ณ ด ต ถ ท ธ น บ ป ผ ฝ พ ภ ม ย ร ล ว ส ห อ, and 15 vowels: ะ า อิ อี อุ อู เ แ เอือ โ อำ ไ ใ เ-า อํ. Two tonal markers appear; I (first tone) and + (second tone), while numbers are written out in words to indicate days and months. The Thai language used in the inscription includes six word classes: nouns (common, proper, and collective), pronouns (“เจ้า” for second person and “ท่าน” for third person), verbs (both transitive and intransitive), adjectives (for quantities and locations), prepositions (such as “แก่” as a linking word), and conjunctions (such as “และ” to connect ideas in agreement), following the linguistic concepts of Phra Upakit Silpasarn.
