Motivation and Efficiency of Police Work of the Office of Inspector General

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to examine police at the Office of Inspector General in various aspects. 1) the level of police’ motivation at work, 2) the level of police’ work efficiency, 3) personal factors affecting work motivation, 4) personal factors affecting work efficiency, and 5) the relationship between police work motivation and police work efficiency. The sample group were 176 police officers of the Office of Inspector General recruited by stratified random sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire. Data were analyzed into frequency, percentage, standard deviation, t-test and F-test. A One-Way ANOVA was employed to test Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient.


The results showed that 1) the overall police work motivation of the Office of Inspector General was at a high level. Regarding motivator factors, work motivation with the highest level was professional achievement. For support factors, the aspect with the highest mean was relationship among colleagues. 2) The overall work efficiency was at a high level with the highest mean in operation expenses.3) Different sex, age, marital status, educational background, hierarchy position, average monthly income, and length of service affected the level of work motivation significantly.4) Different sex, age, marital status, educational background, hierarchy position, average monthly income, and length of service affected the level of work efficiency significantly. 5) The overall relationship between work motivation and work efficiency was significantly high.
