English Style Home decoration of the Malays: The New Economic Policy and an Emergence of the New Middle Class in Malaysia between 1980-2010 (in Thai)

Abstract

This article entitled “English Style Home decoration of the Malays: the New Economic Policy and an Emergence of the New Middle Class in Malaysia between 1980-2010” aims to study the British house decoration style in Malaysia during 1980-2010 in order to understand how the Malay middle class expressed their identity through the home decoration style.

It was found that the British home decoration style was used as a significant tool to express the social status of the Malay new middle class. Remarkably, this particular culture has embodied the senses of modernity, luxury and high-class. This culture has therefore become popular again among the Malay middle class during the new growth era of the middle class since 1980 as an instrument to reveal their new identity.

การตกแต่งบ้านสไตล์อังกฤษของคนมลายู: นโยบายเศรษฐกิจใหม่กับการก่อตัวชนชั้นกลางใหม่ ในประเทศมาเลเซีย ค.ศ.1980-2010

บทความชิ้นนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา การตกแต่งบ้านสไตล์อังกฤษในประเทศมาเลเซีย ในช่วงทศวรรษ 1980 - 2010 และศึกษาค่านิยม การแสดงออกถึงสถานะทางสังคมที่เชื่อมโยงกับ รสนิยมการตกแต่งบ้านสไตล์อังกฤษของชนชั้น กลางชาวมลายู

ทั้งนี้ข้อค้นพบการศึกษาคือการตกแต่ง บ้านสไตล์อังกฤษได้ถูกนำามาเป็นเครื่องมืออย่าง หนึ่งในการแสดงออกถึงสถานะทางสังคมของ ชาวมลายูชนชั้นกลางใหม่ เนื่องด้วยวิธีคิดที่ถูก ฝังรากลึกไว้ด้วยค่านิยมแบบชาวอังกฤษในยุค อาณานิคม ซึ่งได้ทิ้งความเชื่ออย่างหนึ่งไว้ให้กับ สังคมที่ตกอยู่ภายใต้อาณานิคมในมาเลเซีย นั่น คือวัฒนธรรมอย่างอังกฤษเป็นนัยของความเป็น สมัยใหม่ หรูหรา มีระดับ ดังนั้นแล้วการตกแต่ง บ้านสไตล์อังกฤษได้ถูกนำกลับมาเป็นที่นิยมในกลุ่มชนชั้นกลางชาว มลายูในช่วงการขยายตัวของชนชั้นกลางนับตั้งแต่ ค.ศ. 1980 ในฐานะ ของเครื่องมือการนำเสนอตัวตนใหม่ของชาวมลายู
