บทคัดย่อ

บทความนี้ศึกษากลุ่มอนุตตรธรรม ซึ่งขับเคลื่อนโดยฆราวาส โดยใช้วิธีวิจัยทางชาติพันธุ์วรรณณา  เก็บข้อมูลทั้งในไทยและอินโดนีเซีย มีข้อค้นพบคือ (1) อนุตตรธรรมมิได้ถูกเบียดขับโดยพุทธกระแสหลักเท่านั้น พวกเขาเองยังตีความคำสอนเพื่อต่อสู้และเอาชนะคำสอนเดิมอีกด้วย ซึ่งชุดคำอธิบายเหล่านั้นไม่จำเป็นต้องมีมิติทางวิทยาศาสตร์ (2) อนุตตรธรรมเน้นว่ามนุษย์สามารถบรรลุธรรมได้ในชาตินี้ แต่ต้องได้รับการช่วยเหลือจากเทพเจ้าจีน ด้วยเหตุนี้ ระดับความเข้มข้นของอัตลักษณ์ความเป็นจีนที่ผูกติดกับวิถีของอนุตตรธรรมจะแตกต่างไปตามการเมืองทางศาสนาของประเทศนั้น ๆ
