Abstract

The research goal of this paper is to: 1) Study the development of ceramic figure painting and its classification in Jingdezhen during the Ming and Qing dynasties. 2) Analyse the aesthetic and cultural connotations of Jingdezhen ceramic figure painting during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The main research methods applied in the paper include literature research method, field study and interdisciplinary research method. The results show that: 1)The theme of ceramic figure painting during the Ming and Qing dynasties in Jingdezhen has a gradually enriched development trajectory. There are four main themes of ceramic figure painting in the Ming dynasty: history, mythology, opera and realism themes. On the basis of the Ming dynasty, in the Qing dynasty, there emerged the theme of Western figure painting, forming a total of five themes. 2) Ceramic figure painting in the Ming and Qing dynasties focused on the proportional relationship, echo relationship and color expression of figures in form. The cultural connotations reflect the religious beliefs, social politics, folk customs and social development in ancient China. This research can generate the knowledge system of ceramic figure painting in Ming and Qing dynasties, and provide the basis for spreading and inheriting ceramic figure painting.
