The Study of the Identity of Decorative Patterns on the Buddhist Pulpit In WatPhraThaenSila At, Uttaradit Province

Abstract

        The Study of the Identity of Decorative Patterns on the Buddhist Pulpit in WatPhraThaenSila At, Uttaradit Province was made into 2 parts: 1) the study of overall conditions of the pulpit according to the principle of Thai arts; and 2) the study of the details, form, size, and typical characteristic of the decorative patterns on the main parts of the pulpit. The area of the study was the Local Museum of WatPhraThaenSila At, Uttaradit Province. It was found that the decorative patterns on the pulpit were the art of the late Ayutthaya era. They were typical and could not be found in any other places. Each pattern was different from others and could be separated into kanok and krajang patterns. The patterns could also be grouped by their significant uniqueness, that is, each pattern was different from others and many patterns possessed special characteristics with the shapes of humans, angels, creatures, and giants included in the fine and beautiful patterns.
