Ranai Pai Koung : Khmer Ethnic Music in Sirattana District of Sisaket Province

Abstract

          At present, Isaan folk music that is popular and known by Phrae Lai is Pong Lang band because it is popular in society. and easy to find musicians In addition, in the educational system, Isan folk music courses are included in the curriculum. But there is another type of band that is hard to find. Because it's a less popular band. and it's quite difficult to find a performer This is the Raniadok Piet Kuang Wong. or a traditional Khmer pipe band which is currently only a few bands left
         This academic article aimed at studying the musical characteristics of Raniat Piet Kuang band. which is a Khmer folk pipe in Si Ratana District Sisaket Province. The results revealed that Raniad Piet Kuang was originated in the year 2335 by Mr. Sam, whose last name is unknown. This Khmer immigrant has moved to settle in Sisaket Province and he passed on his knowledge of music to Mr. Sim, who was his son and General Choojai (village in Baan Phingpuay). Therefore, this type of music has been carried on to the present day The merit events, together with funerals in the village especially the funeral of people in the village have been the main events for playing this music. Aprat from that, nearby villages could hire the band to join various events. The songs used in the performance are divided into auspicious songs and inauspicious rhythm to  be suitable for different occasions The song is always the music of the curtains. Black, Chak Bai, Nawan Anong, Jai Nang, Khon Kaen girls, Bang Pakong, Dao Ban Na, Loi Krathong, Om Touk (boating), Om Touk 2 (Pear Rue 2), Kaew Noi songs, etc.
          Nowadays, Raniad Piet Kuang has becomeless popular due to changes in music.  Most of the villagers have turned to popular music such as the genre of country music, music for life or international sting causing the band to become less popular as compared to the past.
