A Creative Work: Sor Ngoeow Song for Wind Quitet

Abstract

          This research aims to achieve the following objectives: (1) to study the melodic structure of the "Sor Ngoeow" song for performance with a wind quintet and (2) to creatively compose a new version of "Sor Ngoeow" for performance with a wind quintet.
         The research methodology involved collecting and studying data from credible internet sources, including documents, images, and audio files. Additionally, reference materials related to music arrangement, harmony, and Lanna folk music were consulted. The melodies were transcribed, analyzed, and synthesized to create a new arrangement
         The research results indicated, in relation to the first objective, that there are two distinct melodic structures of the "Ngoeow" song: one used for the "Fon Ngoeow" dance and another, "Ngoeow" (Se Lamao), which is traditionally used for vocal performance, or "Sor" singing. In regard to the second objective, the process of creative composition and research methodology, inspired by the re-arrangement of these songs, led to the creation of a new version of "Sor Ngoeow" for wind quintet performance.
