Increasing Efficiency of Warehouse Management : A Case Study of a Glass

Abstract

     The  main  purpose  of this  study  is  to  increase  efficiency  in  remnants  glass  management  of  a  Glass  Distribution  Company  by  using  brainstorming  to  find  the  root  of  the  problem  and  use  work  study  to  study  procedures  of  importing, exporting  and  searching  for  remnants  glass.  From  data collection, it  was  found  that  the  work  process  in  the  warehouse  was  complex.  As  a  result, the  information  of  the  remnants  glass  in  the  system  does  not  match  the  figure.  Causing  warehouse  workers  spending  longer  than  15  minutes  in  searching  for  remnants  glass, which  is  not  in  accordance  with  the  company  specified.  The  study  then  applied  a  lean  improvement  method  with  ECRS  principles, Flow  Process  Chart  analysis  and  QR  CODE  system  to  improve  the  reliability  of  the  warehouse  system  and  use  5S  Management  System  to  make  the  warehouse  more  efficient.  The  results  of  the  study  showed  that  be  adjustable  and  reducible  for  the  working  process  for  admission  and  withdrawal  of  the  remnants  glass  also  reduce  the  time  to  reach  the  remnants  glass  from  19.19  minutes  to  5.19  minutes, a  decrease  of  72.48%  and  able  to  increase  the  reliability  of  the  information  from  57.10%  to  83.90%, or  an  increase  of  26.79%.
