A study of components of leader in arts and culture for student teachers

Abstract

            The purposes of this research were to analyze the components of the leader in culture and arts for student teachers. The components were analyzed by Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Research samples were 535 bachelor's degree students of the Faculty of Education in the universities in the western region. Participants were obtained by cluster sampling method and were divided into two groups: 350 participants for Exploratory Factor Analysis and 185 participants for Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The research instrument was a questionnaire on the components of the leader in culture and arts for student teachers. Data analysis was conducted by descriptive statistics, including percentage, mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis to describe basic variable characteristics. Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis were conducted by LISREL program.

The research results are as follows.

1. The results of the Exploratory Factor Analysis of the leader in culture and arts for student teachers found that there were 4 prominent components and 47 variables. Component 1, “commitment and development of arts and culture” had 19 variables, with component weights between .54 and .80 and eigenvalue of 25.83. Component 2, “creativity,” had 10 variables, with component weights between .50 and .69 and eigenvalue of 3.11. Component 3, “good role model” had 8 variables, with component weights between .51 and .79 and eigenvalue of 1.87. Component 4, “attitudes, knowledge, understanding” had 10 variables with component weights between.50 and .70 and eigenvalue of 1.53.
2. The results of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis of the leader in culture and arts for student teachers found that the model was consistent with the empirical data, determined by the chi-square value ( =.04, df=1, p=0.835), which were not different from 0 with statistic difference. The value of the goodness of fit index (GFI) was 1.000 and the value of the adjusted goodness of fit index (AGFI) was .999. The root mean square residual (RMR) was .000, indicating that the model was consistent with the empirical data.
