Perceptions and attitudes of Kui people towards the word Kui, Kui or Sae : a case study of Kui people. in Sisaket Province

Abstract

Kui people’s recognition and attitude towards the words of Kui, Kuay or Suay: A case study of Kui people in Sisaket province, there are purposes as follows: 1) to study Kui people’s recognition level with the word that other ethnic groups have called them as Kui, Kuay or Suay, 2) to study Kui people’s attitude with the oneself definition of Kui, Kuay or Suay ethnic groups and 3) to find the conclusion in calling themselves of Kui, Kuay or Suay ethnic groups. This research is Mixed Method consisted of Quantitative Research by the use of Survey research collecting the data by the use of Questionnaire and Qualitative Research collecting the data by the use of In-depth Interview with informants building from theory concepts and researches related to use as the ways in posing a question and tested reliability and validity of questionnaires and then bring the data to analyze with descriptive statistics, frequency distribution, percentage, average and standard deviation.

The results showed that.

1. The level of perception of the Kui people and the words that other ethnic groups called Kui Kui or Tribute were found that the Ban Ku people had a level of perception about the words that other ethnic groups called Kui Kui or Tribute as a whole. It was at the highest level ( = 4.20, S.D. = .594)
2. The attitudes of the Kui people to the self-definition of the Kui Kui or Tribe ethnic group found that the Quoi had a positive attitude towards the self-definition of the Kui Kui or Tribe ethnic group at a high level ( = 3.97, S.D. = .812)
3. Conclusion on the self-calling of Kui Kui or Tribe ethnic groups, divided into 2 conclusions: 1) can call Kui, Kui, or Tribute because they understand that they have the same meaning 2) Don't want to be called Tribute but can be called Kui Kui or Pitchfork because it means a group of people human beings and the important thing is The culture, customs and traditions are a mark that indicates the ancestral roots of the Kui people. By the word tribute is a word that has a bad meaning, it is an insult to the feelings. therefore wanting to call Kui Kui or pitchfork rather than the word tribute
