A Corroborative Model of Happiness at Work for Technicians of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited

Abstract

The objectives of this study were 1) to study the components of happiness at work for the technicians of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited; 2) to analyze the corroborative components of happiness at work for the technicians of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited; and 3) to present a corroborative model of happiness at work for the technicians of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited. The study was a mixed method in nature, using an in-depth interview to collect qualitative data from 17 key informants and using a questionnaire to collect quantitative data from 328 samples as the technicians of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited. For analyzing qualitative data, techniques 6’C was used, and for quantitative data descriptive statistics was used and corroborative components were analyzed with the Lisrel program.

The results of the study were as follows:

  1. From the study of the components of happiness at work for the technicians of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited it found that the components of happiness consisted of 4 external latent variables including Component: 1 Personal needs, Component: 2 Organization, Component: 3 Applying Buddhadharma for living (Eightfold Path), and Component: 4 Positive psychology.
  2. The results of the corroborative component analysis revealed that as a whole, every component weighed all positive components, available in sizes from 0.61 to 0.97, the most important weighted component was the family relationship which described the happiness at work for the technicians of Thai Airways Public Company Limited 98 percent, runner-up component was the work atmosphere which described their happiness at work 93 percent, and the results of checking the consistency with the empirical data found that the chi-square value (c2) was 601.866, the degree value (df) 303, the chi-square relation (c2/ df) 1.98, the RMR value 0.0364, SRMR 0.741, RMSEA 0.08, GFT 0.90, and the AGFI value was 0.909. This indicated that the model of happiness at work for the technicians of Thai Airways Public Company Limited was very consistent with the empirical data.

3. A corroborative model of happiness at work for the technicians of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited encompassed 4 latent variables including family relationship, atmosphere at work, middle way lifestyle, and positive psychology; 20 observable variables including life satisfaction, job satisfaction, family relationship, life balance, relationships with supervisors, relationships with colleagues, work environment, compensation, stability, Sammaditthi (Right understanding), Sammasamkappa (Right thought), Sammavaca (Right speech), Sammakammanta (Right action), Sammaajiva (Right livelihood), Sammavayama (Right effort), Sammasati (Right mindfulness), Sammasamadhi (Right concentration), commitment, relationship, and success.
