NEW NORMAL: THE DEVELOPMENT OF DIABETES CARE MODEL FOR COVID-19 CO-INFECTION PREVENTION

The research entitled “New Normal: The development of Diabetes Care Model for Covid-19 Co-infection Prevention” focusing on three objectives i.e. i) to study the problems of Diabetes Care and screening, ii) to study of Diabetes Care in Covid pandemic, and iii) to propose Diabetes Care Model in Covid pandemic. This research was conducted by mixed method. The qualitative one was carried out by In-depth interview, focus group discussion and action research. A total of 16 key informants of Kaisaengkamnerdmee health Promotion Hospital which were consisted of hospital administrators, patients participants, hospital medical service staff and health volunteers were in depth interviewed by purposed sampling . A total of 12 people were selected by purposed sampling for focus group discussion about Diabetes care model in covid pandemic. The focus group was consisted of 4 of each group of hospital management, hospital medical service staff, patients and health volunteer. A total of 15 volunteer patients joined the education and training about diabetes disease, covid
knowledge, diabetes care and how to prevent covid confection. Statistical techniques used for data analysis were percentage, Average (x̄) and standard deviation (SD) for pretest and posttest by paired t-test.
The Results of the study revealed that:
- The keys problems of Diabetes care and screening in regular situation were lacking of manpower and workload (doctors and nurses were not enough compared to number of populations), Eating Behavior and how to eat properly . Diabetes patients should eat Vegetables, to get enough mineral, fiber and proper fruit that suit for DM. The food should have anti free radical or herbal substance that support and better for DM, the quality as well as quantity of food were crucial to DM. The Diabetes patients should have good behavior of Exercise to keep balance of energy. The goal was to control of their blood glucose level. Moreover, the infrastructure of health system was not support Diabetes Care units in providing Diabetes Care to patients and effective DM screening.
- Regarding the education of Diabetes Care in Covid pandemic revealed that the pre - post test of the first activity which was Education of Diabetes Diseases and the third activity which was education of Behavior of Diabetes in prevention of Covid-19 co-infection were significantly different score. This implied that proper education enhance the score of knowledge of patients who joined the activities both for Diabetes Disease education and behavior education of DM to prevent Co-infection of Covid-19. While the score of post-test of the secondary activities of education of Covid-19 in relations with Diabetes was a little higher than the pretest score but not significant this may assume that Covid-19 was the new disease happened in late 2019 which still require further study and understand of the disease while Diabetes was long term happened and well-known disease, these two disease should have more in depth investigation of relationships.
