Abstract

This objective of this study is consisted of : 1) to study the history of the Mon community on Koh Kret, Nonthaburi Province. 2) To study the preservation of Mon identity through cultural tourism of the Mon community on Koh Kret, Nonthaburi Province. 3) To study the guidelines for preserving Mon identity through cultural tourism a case study of the Mon community on Koh Kret, Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi Province by qualitative research regulations, The sample group were local administrators and related people. The research instruments applied in this study were in-depth interviews and content analysis.

             The results of the research found that

  1. History of the Mon community on Koh Kret, Nonthaburi Province. The Mon residents living in Koh Kret sub-district migrated from Myanmar to Thailand around the year 1774 A.D. King Taksin gave the migrant Mon family to live along the Chao Phraya River or known as Koh Kret Island in present days. The Mon people in this area of Koh Kret have a culture and beliefs about ghosts and religious traditions. Most of the Mon people who came here had knowledge in making potteries.
  2. Tourism in Koh Kret is still a cultural tourism that still preserves the original culture and there is still support for the new generation to inherit and express about the Mon culture. The exhibition on different types of occupations and Mon performances are also shown to tourists. People in the community all work together with government agencies to preserve and conserve the Mon culture in order to stay with Koh Kret.
  3. Cultural tourism contributes to the conservation of the Mon culture of Koh Kret. Although the modern world has changed some of the Mon culture of Koh Kret but people in the community and leaders are still willing to join in the legacy to Inherit these good cultural traditions and ready to cooperate with other agencies to help them take care and develop in order to maintain the unique culture of the Mon people of Koh Kret.
