AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF THREEFOLD BASE OF MERITORIOUS APPEARED IN THE COMMENTARY SCRIPTURE OF DHAMMAPADA

Abstract
The objectives of this thesis were as follows 1) to study of Threefold Base of Meritorious which are appeared in Theravada Buddhist scripture. 2) to study of Threefold Base of Meritorious in Dhammapada commentary scripture. and 3) to analyze of Trifold Base of Meritorious which are appeared in Dhammapda commentary scripture. the results of the study were The highest goodness in Buddhism can be divided in three levels i.e. Sila level means to control physical and speech along with basic virtue for peaceful of society, kusalakammabatha goodness means to act according to Buddhism and magga goodness mean to perform according to principle for cessation of suffering which is the highest goodness in Buddhism and the performance according to Buddhist principle called “merit making” can be divided into into three categories according to punkiriyavathu3, means meritmaking with dana (giving) merit making with Sila (precept) and merit making with pawana (meditation or counteraction)The offering of Dana which is appeared in Dhammapada commentary scripture these are two types as follows, giving for helping and giving for gratefulness and composed of five characters of giving as following giving with helping mind giving without any effect and to have two fruits i.e. To be born in the haven and to have purposes for controlling physical, speech and mind and to be order in society and the aspect ofbhavana found that the purpose for cessation of suffering in terms of Samathabhavana,Vipassanabhavana, Asuphakammatthana, MettaandMarananussati.
