USING GROW COACHING MODEL AND MENTORING FOR A MOTHER TO REDUCE PROMPTING TO INITIATE DAILY ACTIVITIES OF AN ADULT WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES

Abstract

This research interded for 1) Study the GROW coaching model process and to be a mentor for mother 2) Study reduction of mother's prompts in the daily routine of adult with intellectual disabilities 3) Study the ability of initiating daily routines of adult with intellectual disabilities. The target group in this research consisted of a female with intellectual disabilities, age 23 and her mother. The 6 research tools were: an interview form for analyzing case study’s problems conducted by researcher and mother; pre & post- tests; teaching plan for mother, a behavioral record form of mother an observation form of mother's prompting behavior before and after coaching and mentoring and an observation form for daily -routine initiating of case study before and after coaching and mentoring. The data were analyzed by scores, percentages, medians and content analysis for qualitative data. The findings showed that 1) The GROW coaching model process and to be a mentor I for mother composed of five steps: relationship building and goal setting; cooperative problem analysis; selecting methods to achieve goals; organizing plan and practicing according to the plan; and cooperative evaluation 2) Reduction of mother's prompts in the daily routine of adult with intellectual disabilities, mother abled to reduce prompting behavior in all activities; 3) The ability of initiating daily routines of adult with intellectual disabilities, a case study could initiate daily routines independently in all activities.
