Abstract

The purposes of this research were: 1) To develop an Active Learning Management Curriculum for elementary school teachers at the basic education level; and 2) To investigate the effects of implementing the Active Learning Management Curriculum for elementary school teachers at the basic education level. The research was conducted in two stages. 1) Involved curriculum development. Basic information was obtained from relevant documents and research studies. The curriculum was then drafted and its quality was evaluated by seven experts, comprising experts in curriculum development and experts in active learning management. A pilot study was also conducted with five volunteer elementary school teachers. and 2) Involved the implementation and evaluation of the curriculum with 30 volunteer elementary school teachers selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments consisted of the Active Learning Management Curriculum, a curriculum manual, a curriculum appropriateness evaluation form, a knowledge test, an attitude scale, and an active learning management performance assessment form. All research instruments were examined for quality by experts. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The findings revealed that: 1) The Active Learning Management Curriculum consisted of eight components: rationale and principles, objectives, curriculum structure, content, learning activities, duration, learning media and resources, and measurement and evaluation. The experts rated the curriculum as appropriate at a high to highest level, and the results of the pilot study indicated that the curriculum was practical and could be implemented effectively; and 2) After participating in the curriculum, the teachers’ knowledge of active learning management, attitudes toward active learning management, and abilities in active learning management were significantly higher than those before the training at the .05 level of statistical significance. These findings indicate that the developed curriculum was effective and appropriate for enhancing the competencies of elementary school teachers in active learning management.
