Abstract

This article aims to study trends in eco-city development occurring in cities around the world and in Thailand. Use the method of reviewing information from documents, research, journals, and academic articles, both domestically and abroad. Qualitative data were analyzed using the ATLAS.ti program, which helps in analyzing, separating, and synthesizing data. The results of the study found that the eco-city concept is influenced by the garden city concept. Since in 1987, Register academics proposed the concept of eco-city to create an equal balance among all groups of people living in the city in terms of economics, society, and the environment. It has become a component of international indicators for developing cities around the world in many ways. For Thailand, we started developing eco-cities in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, giving importance to the development of environmentally friendly infrastructure and using the 3 R methods (reduce, recycle, and reuse) to bring balance to the city. Recently, Thailand has developed indicators that are similar to the concept of eco-cities, called "Environmentally Sustainable Cities". For use as a guideline for developing the city towards balance in every dimension of the city. In summary, the development of eco-cities occurring in cities around the world and in Thailand consists of 10 economic components, 16 social components, and 14 environmental components.
