Factors Affecting Thai Tapioca Starch Export Volume to Japan

Abstract

This research aims to study the Factors Affecting Thai Tapioca Starch Export Volume to Japan using annual data from 1988 to 2022. The data was tested using the Linear Regression Analysis, the Unit Root Test, the Cointegration Test, and the Granger Causality Test. The findings show that independent variables, such as Thailand's labor productivity, the number of farming households, the cultivated and harvested areas, average yield per cultivated and harvested area, the exchange rate between Thailand and Japan, Japan's GDP, Thailand’s tapioca starch export prices, farmers’ selling prices, exports to China, and rainfall, have Cointegration with Thai tapioca starch exports to Japan. Additionally, the Granger Causality Test, found that Thailand's labor productivity and exports to China are key factors influencing exports to Japan. In particular, an increase in labor productivity boosts production efficiency, resulting in higher output and lower costs, which leads to increased exports to Japan. However, when large amounts of tapioca starch are exported to China, the resources available for export to Japan may decrease.
