Impact of Webb’s DOK Questioning on Thai Literature Reading Comprehension in Grade 8 Learners at a Bangkok International School

This research article aimed to evaluate effects of using a Webb’s Depth of Knowledge taxonomy questioning technique on grade 8 secondary school students’ reading comprehension ability regarding Thai literature by comparing the median score of reading comprehension ability prior to and after learning by following the Webb’s Depth of Knowledge taxonomy questioning technique which is the experiment. This study aimed to evaluate the impacts of Webb’s Depth of Knowleadge questioning technique on Grade 8 students’ Thai literature reading comprehension by comparing their median scores before and after the intervention. The samples consisted of 19 Grade 8 learners from an international school in Bangkok during the 2024 academic year, selected through purposive sampling and taught using Webb’s Depth of Knowledge taxonomy questioning technique. The research instrument was a 30-item multiple-choice reading comprehension test. The experiment used 10 lesson plans based on the Webb’s Depth of Knowledge taxonomy questioning technique, each lasting 40 minutes. The study was conducted over two weeks with five sessions per week. Quantitative data were analyzed to determine the median and standard deviation. Additionally, the results were analyzed for statistical significance using the Wilcoxon test. The findings showed that the median score of Grade 8 students’ Thai literature reading comprehension after the experiment was of significantly higher than before, at the 0.05 level.
