India in Asia: Asia in India (28-30 May, City University of Hong Kong)

We are excited to announce a new film studies conference, "India in Asia: Asia in India: Transcultural Film Practices, Circulations, and Histories." This 3-day academic event will be held on May 28-30, 2026, at the City University of Hong Kong's School of Creative Media. This event is perhaps the first academic conference in film studies to focus solely on the relationships between Asian countries, Asian audiences, Asian cinemas, and India, Asia's biggest film producer.

We have four keynote speakers (S.V. Srinivas, Rashmi Doraiswamy, Tamaki Matsuoka, and Krista Van Fleit), eight plenary speakers (Sangita Gopal, Nitin Govil, Haina Jin, Dale Hudson, Monika Mehta, Swapnil Rai, Iain Robert Smith, and Samhita Sunya), and twenty-six speakers selected from over 80 submissions, many of whom are from South, East, Southeast Asia, as well as the US, UK, and Europe.
