THE PROCESS OF ORGANIZING “GREEN FUNERAL” FOR COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY: A CASE STUDIES OF BANLOA, BANlOA SUB-DISTRICT MUANG CHAIYAPHUM DISTRICT, CHAIYAPHUM PROVINCE

Abstract

Objectives of this research were: 1. To study the community context related to funerals, 2. To study the causes, factors, conditions, and impacts of funerals in terms of quality of life and the environment, 3. To study the value and importance of Abhidhamma 7 chants and 4. to study the process of organizing green funerals for community and environmental sustainability. The research design was qualitative research using in-depth interviews with key informants. Data was analyzed by descriptive content interpretation and focus group discussions.

The results showed that 1. Funeral arrangements were alcohol-free, gambling-free, and support frugal arrangements that were not large or extravagant, but valuable. 2. Most funeral arrangements were still organized according to consumerism, which had an impact on quality of life, the environment, and the social context of the community. 3. Chanting of the Abhidhamma 7, Metaphysics, scriptures in Pali language. and 4. The process of organizing a green funeral for the sustainability of the community and the environment in a new form by instilling that it is a good merit-making event.
