BUDDHADHAMMA INTEGRATION FOR PUBLIC SERVICE QUALITY DEVELOPMENT OF DONMUEANG DISTRICT OFFICE IN BANGKOK

Abstract

Objectives of this research article were: 1.To investigate the level of public service quality at the Don Mueang District Office; 2. To examine the relationship between Buddhist principles and the quality of public services at the Don Mueang District Office; and 3.To propose approaches for integrating Buddhist principles to enhance the quality of public services in Don Mueang District, Bangkok, conducted by the mixed research methods. The quantitative research, data were collected from 395 samples, using Taro Yamane’s formula. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation and inferential statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, conducted with statistical software. The research instruments included four components: 1. Personal demographic information, 2. a questionnaire on Sangahavatthu Dhamma, 3. a questionnaire on service quality, and 4. a questionnaire on problems, obstacles, and suggestions. The qualitative research, data were collected by in-depth interviewing 10 key informants, purposefully selected. The Data were analyzed using content descriptive interpretation and synthesized in accordance with the research objectives.

The findings were as follows: 1. The overall quality of public service was at a very high level. 2. The correlation between the Sangahavatthu Dhamma and service quality at the Don Mueang District Office was at a moderate positive level. 3. There were four integration approaches: namely, Dana; Generosity, assigning knowledgeable and capable staff at service points in sufficient numbers. Piyavaca; pleasant speech, greeting with a smile, speaking in a gentle, polite, and respectful manner. Atthacariya; altruism, providing assistance to all equally without discrimination, regardless of social status. Samanattata; equality, ensuring proper and clean attire, polite service with friendliness, and a non-discriminatory attitude.
