Abstract

Information literacy has been recognized today as an essential tool for successful college education as well as lifelong learning. This study aimed to ascertain the effect of organizational management in support of electronic media implementation on the level of college student information literacy standards. Five medium-sized private universities in Bangkok Metropolis were randomly selected. A total of 120 instructors of the business programs were key respondents that reflected their perceptions of organizational management, electronic media implementation, and student information literacy. Data were collected by questionnaires and were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation.

Findings on organizational management practices showed a high level of management performances. The managerial functions that were highly rated included organization structure, strategy, support, and staffing whereas the remaining aspects were moderately rated. Findings on electronic media implementation showed moderate ratings in all aspects. Findings on student information literacy showed a moderate level of achievement, with information usage the only high rated aspect. Multiple correlation analyses showed that each component of student information literacy was correlated with at least one aspect of electronic media implementation – with information resources and media fascinators as two foremost components. All components of organizational management practices – notably strategy, staffing, and control – were correlated with at least one aspect of electronic media implementation. Almost all components of organizational management practices were associated with some standards of student information literacy – with the exception of budgeting and evaluation of information sources. Discussion of significant relationships among the components of these three factors offered implications for university management practices in support of electronic media services with a view to raising the standards of student information literacy necessary for college education as well as for lifelong learning.
