Abstract

This paper aimed to study the external factors in international politics and economic that cause the transition in education by Missionary American Presbyterian in Chiang Mai. The study found that Not only, educational policy by siamese government is a reason of transition in education by Missionary American Presbyterian but also “Vesuvius Plans” is another reason as well. New policy called “Nevius Plan” was adapted to missionaries in Chiang Mai in 1895, which then resulted in the decreasing of income of schools founded by oversea missionaries. Facing this challenge, schools had to finance themselves by attracting more local students, whose demand was working as a civil servant. To do so, they adjusted their courses to a more centralized curriculum and teaching Siamese language at schools.
