The Problems of Housing development for urban low-income population: a case study of Baan Mankong project at Ruam Samakee community, I Soi Ramkhamhaeng 39

Abstract

           The objectives of this research are: 1) to study the current situation of Baan Mankong project for low-income population at Ruam Samakee community, Soi Ramkhamhaeng 39; 2) to study the public opinions towards this project; 3) to analyze the problems from the development of housing for low-income population; and 4) to suggest the guidelines for the physical development for low-income community that cater to the needs of its residents. The methods of research are interview and questionnaire.

           The results of this research show that the pilot Baan Mankong project at Ruam Samakee community, Soi Ramkhamhaeng 39, that arise from the need for suitable residential development guidelines and the cooperation in community, allows the community to be better in all aspects including physical, economic, and social aspects. Thus, the population highly appreciated the change of residential and community development and they have a high level of needs to increase the space for recreation. Moreover, when analyzing the problems that arise from the development of housing for low income population, this community has faced with the problem of transportation and land use. Therefore, guidelines for physical development housing for people with low income include a) guidelines for the management of the public spaces of the community; b) approach to improve the landscape of the community; and c) guidelines for parking management.
