Sufficiency Economy and Gender Equality in the Household

Abstract

          This research aims to investigate whether the philosophy of Sufficiency Economy is related to Gender Equality in households focusing upon the BangRakNoi community in Nontaburi provice as a case study. A mixed method combinding qualitative and quantitative methods was used for this reserach. 62 questionaires and eight in-depth interviews were collected and analysed. The BangRak Noic ommunity is a model community to apply the Sufficiency Economy philosophy as it is part of their daily liurs. The result reveals a highly significant relationship between the concept of Sufficiency Economy theory and the concept of Gender Equality. The normative behavior regarding duties both inside and outside the household which is usually based upon gender stereotypes and cultural gender roles were changed. In addition, the women participation in household decisions became more important.
