Violent Behavior in Media Use by Students in Lampang Province

Abstract

This aims of this research article are as follows 1) to survey students' media usage behaviors and media literacy usage; 2) to study the correlation between factors affecting violent behavior on social media and learning behavior of students' media usage. The research is based on quantitative data collected by survey questionnaires at 2 target schools in Lampang Province, with 200 students per school, totaling 400 students. Most of the students surveyed were female (Ethnic Thai-Yuan and Khon Muang) studying in Grade 12 and living with parents or with relatives. Their parents were farmers. In their free time, they usually listen to music, watch movies or TV (such as action movies), enjoy fighting games, and often watch YouTube. They also use social media to chat with friends and to study. The research found that most students have not experienced cyberbullying on social media. Moreover, they also have media literacy and regularly analyze the information critically prior to believing it. The research found that cyberbullying behavior on social media depends on the parents’ occupation at the 0.05 level of statistical significance.
