Abstract

This study compared the rates of public engagement for the Strategic Environmental Impact Assessments in Thailand and Japan (SEA). The researcher utilized a method to examine secondary data taken from books, papers, and scholarly publications, and utilized data from the internet, in addition to the strategic environmental assessment and awareness concepts as the study's guiding principles. The findings demonstrated that a variety of elements, including the management and operation style of the government, have an impact on involvement and awareness, which differ between the populations of Japan and Thailand. Environmental issues are well-known and understood by the Japanese people, resulting in a highly engaging process. However, the people of Thailand still lack access to a body of knowledge that the government has not fully supported and promoted, resulting in a lack of collaboration during the (SEA). evaluation process. Environmental and consciousness elements were also discovered to play a role in the Japanese and Thai population's awareness. In Japan, there is a collective consciousness, which brings about awareness, while people in Thailand are less motivated to advocate for the value of the public interest, resulting in a lack of collaboration in the public sector. Additionally, the government ought to support public education to increase involvement, knowledge, and understanding.
