Abstract

The research on “The analysis of Thai Teen Films as a Genre in Thai Films” is a quantitative study. Its purpose is aimed to: 1) To study narrative formula of Thai teen films that have been released since the year 2550 - 2560 B.E.  2) To study the genres status of Thai Teen Genres movies from releasing since 2550-2560 B.E.  The research methodology is Textual Analysis  and the movie Sampling for the study are 41 Thai Teen Films during 2550-2560 B.E. which are divided into 6 types as ; Drama, Horror, Romance, LGBT, Road Movie and Heist.

The study result indicate that 6 types of Thai teen films has been presented in narrative formula as the aspect of change & growth process, overcoming the coming of age, and finding self- identity. For the plot, there are 5 stages which are; presenting problems, problems consequences, confrontations for discovering, self-overcoming, and story ending. As the theme, it shows self-actualization. About the characters, the leading actor and actress are the representative of teens who confront the family's problems, friendship, and love. For the setting locations, school is the space that takes control between the teens while houses symbolized the emptiness, and the outdoor is to finding the meaning of lives’ experiences

 In the aspect of creativity, Thai teen movies still take the old traditions storytelling in each convention, as well as creating the invention. Besides, they have introduced the ideal of Postmodern such as intertextually to connect the feeling and interest to the stories. It's indicated that Thai Teen movies as a Genre, which is considered by Narrative Pattern and Film Elements in every types of the movies. While the Genre status is Sub-Genre with the combination of hybrid narrative convention based on the dominance of the narrative elements form the others main genres.
