Abstract

This study aimed to determine the correlation between reading comprehension in Filipino and the self-esteem of grade 4 to 6 students of Cebu Normal University-Integrated Laboratory School. This study was participated by 133 students who were chosen using complete enumeration sampling. Data on this study were analyzed quantitatively using the Pearson correlation tool. Results revealed that self-esteem and reading comprehension have a correlation with the significance tailed 0.017036 < 0.05. It means H0 was rejected. The result of this study infers that in education, the developing mind of the students should not only be the focus of teaching but it must also consider the affective factors of the students. Thus, it is recommended to have an integrative way of teaching in the class that will measure the cognitive and affective domains of every individual. Guidance counseling should also be strengthened in every school.
