Kachin Ethnic’s Silver Jewelry of Baan Mai Samakkee: Life’s Passage Glamour of the Hill Tribe

Abstract

 This academic article  “Kachin Ethnic’s Silver Jewelry : Life’s Passage Glamour of the Hill Tribe” aims to study 1) the background of the single village of christian Kachin tribe, Baan Mai Samakkee, Chiang Dao district, Chiang Mai which is located on northern Thailand. The tribe could be divided into 6 races i.e. Jinghpaw, Maru, Rawang, Lisu, Lashi and Zaiwa. These races keep on their culture and tradition, particularly their traditional “Manau” dance. 2)  Kachin’s traditional dressing which is emphasized on female, regardless of ages, apparel and silver ornament 3) 92.5 % silver is the most favor material for Kachin’s silver which fully-presented on the special occasion. They are produced and sent by the silversmiths from Myanmar since these silversmiths are not available in the village itself. 4) Forms of the Kachin’s silver jewelry which could be recognized as neck shackles, necklace, bracelet and silver button assembled to the chest coronet.
