The Image of Thailand in Korean Daily Newspapers

Abstract
This study aimed to examine the image of Thailand presented in daily newspapers in South Korea. The data were collected from two newspapers online in 2006: Dhong-A Ilbo and Chousun Ilbo. The Image Theory and Cultivation Theory were adopted to analyze the content and modality of the news. The study showed that the news content about Thailand mostly dealt with politics, followed by society, business, culture, and sport, respectively. The analysis of the findings also revealed eight aspects of the image of Thailand. First, the democracy in Thailand was viewed as backward nowadays. Second, the economic situation was worse and interrupted. Third, the king is the center of the people. Thailand still occurs with violence-prone cause by Separatism. Next, Thailand is the country of crime. Another image is that Thailand is the country of the prostitute. It was also viewed that Thai people consume a lot of Korean cultures. Finally, there are many beautiful places to travel and leisure in Thailand.
