The Concept of Gender and Sexual Diversity in Sciences and Social Sciences Paradigms

Abstract
This article aims to understand the current concept of gender and sexual diversity that found in the paradigms of sciences and social sciences. It was found from the comparison of two notions that gender and sexual diversity in the sense of the scientific knowledge- includes psychiatry and sexology can be explained from biological factors and human physiology then was classified to normal (female and male) and abnormal sex (unidentified sexual organ). This comprehension is based on the objectivist paradigm. From perspectives of social sciences knowledge, such as history, feminist studies, queer studies and anthropology, on the other hand, explain that gender and sexual diversity can happen under the changing social and cultural context. This indicates that women and men are not naturally occurring but are culturally shaped. People create their own gender identity. Understanding these different paradigms will help to see the direction of gender and sexual knowledge in society better.
