เมื่อโลกก้าวเข้าสู่ยุคสมัยใหม่ศาสนาถูกลดบทบาทลง ศาสนามีความพยายามปรับตัวให้ตอบสนองต่อโลกสมัยใหม่มากขึ้น แต่ก็ยังไม่ได้รับความสนใจและถูกกีดกันออกจากกระบวนการพัฒนา จนกระทั่ง ปรากฏการณ์การฟื้นตัวของศาสนาทั่วโลกสะท้อนว่าศาสนาได้สร้างผลกระทบต่อสังคมโลกอย่างไม่อาจละเลยได้ ทำให้แวดวงวิชาการ และวงการพัฒนาเริ่มพิจารณาประเด็นเรื่อง “ศาสนากับการพัฒนา” ทำให้บทบาทของ “องค์กรพัฒนาเอกชนที่มีพื้นฐานความเชื่อทางศาสนา” ได้รับการกล่าวถึงในวงกว้าง ดังนั้น บทความนี้จึงมุ่งสะท้อนการปรับตัวของศาสนาผ่านงานพัฒนากลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ของพระศาสนจักรและองค์กรพัฒนาเอกชนคาทอลิกที่มีการปรับตัวเพื่อแก้ไขปัญหาของกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ได้อย่างเหมาะสมกับปัญหาที่กลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ต้องเผชิญได้อย่างทันท่วงที

Abstract

The role of religion has been reduced because it is not compatible with modernity and paradigm shift in the modern world. Religion tries to adjust itself to serve the modern. Although public role of religion has increased, the role of religion in the development process was overlooked. After religious revival phenomenon took place, it indicated the great impact of religion on a global level. Academic and developmental societies began to focus on “religion and development” issues and the role of faith-based organizations (FBOs) was immensely discussed. Therefore, this article reflects the adjustment of religion through ethnic development of the Catholic Church and Catholic-Inspired NGOs in Northern Thailand. These instances show an ability to respond ethnic groups’ problems immediately.
