Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the language Patterns and the language strategies used in Café Reviews via Facebook Pages. The research applied qualitative methodology by collecting data and language strategies from three Facebook Pages: Cafe Story, Chiwit tid review andEDTguide, selecting from 3 types of pages with content about café reviews in Thailand: café reviews, coffee shops, etc. Cafe and restaurant reviews and travel café reviews with more than 1 million followers and only posted by the Page owner. Four hundred and sixty-seven pieces of writing were collected in one year, July 2021 – June 2022. And interviews with café entrepreneurs who review their cafes on their Facebook page. Using a purposive sampling method, six cafes were selected to offer publicity content through a publicly available Facebook page. Cafes, restaurants and tourist cafes. The results showed that four patterns in café reviews on Facebook pages: naming, opening, storytelling, and closing stories. There are 4 types of naming: naming by café name; Naming using the restaurant's delicious menu Dictated naming and mixed naming. There are 4 types of opening: narrative opening, descriptive storytelling, question-based storytelling, and reader-greeting storytelling. There are 4 forms of storytelling. Descriptive storytelling Story progression by conversation with readers, and mixed storytelling. There are 4 forms of closing the story: closing the story by providing important information; Closing a story using a culture, closing a story using hashtags, and closing a mixed story.The result showed that there are 8 semantic strategies and 3 pragmatic strategies. These semantic strategies are imagery, emoticon, loan words, pronoun, form changing words, slang, dialects and rhyme respectively. The pragmatic strategies comprise of speech act, metaphor, and rhetorical questions respectively.
