Abstract

This article aimed to study and analyze the roles and essential functions of the Learning Management System (LMS) in supporting teaching and learning in the next normal era, a period in which education must adapt to rapid digital transformation and the increased demand for flexible, accessible, and technology-enhanced learning environments.
The research methodology employed a literature review of research papers, academic documents, and online resources to gather knowledge about the functions of LMS (Learning Management System) and its application in various teaching and learning formats. These documents were collected, analyzed, and synthesized to construct a systematic understanding of LMS functionalities and their application to current teaching and learning processes. The findings revealed that LMS played a significant role in enhancing instructional efficiency by supporting content management, communication between instructors and learners, assessment, and learner progress tracking. LMS also promoted learner-centered learning by enabling continuous access to learning materials, supporting self-paced learning, and facilitating active learning activities through interactive tasks, online exercises, and collaborative tools. Additionally, the study highlighted the potential of LMS to integrate advanced technologies, such as, Learning Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI), which helped personalize learning pathways and provided more accurate monitoring of learner performance. The knowledge derived from this study could be applied to curriculum design, instructional innovation, and the development of educational technology policies. It also provided practical insights that could assist educators and institutions in creating flexible, efficient, and learner-centered learning environments that aligned with the needs and challenges of teaching and learning in the next normal era.
