Development of the Sappaya Buddhist for Way for the Well-being of the Urban Community: Case Study of Wat Deeduad

Abstract

The research titled "Development of the Sappaya Area along the Buddhist Way for the Well-being of the Urban Community aims to 1) study the current state and needs for developing Sappaya areas along the Buddhist way for urban community well-being, 2) develop a model for Sappaya area arrangement impacting urban community well-being, and 3) study the results of the Sappaya area development on urban community well-being. This study employed qualitative research methods, conducting fieldwork at Wat Deedod community, Bangkok. Data were collected from 15 key informants and 10 focus group participants using in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. Data analysis was performed using content analysis. The results revealed that: 1) The current state of Wat Deedod faced limitations regarding physical environment, cleanliness, and greenery, with a lack of community participation; the community expressed a need for green spaces and public areas conducive to activities. 2) The development model utilized a 5-step process: survey, design, participatory implementation, management, and continuous development, integrating the 7 Sappaya principles. 3) The development resulted in holistic well-being across four dimensions: Physical (good environment), Mental (peacefulness), Social (unity), and Intellectual (learning).
