A Study of the use of artificial intelligence for the propagation of Buddhism by Dhammaduta

Abstract

This research aims to 1) study the current and desired state and necessity of using artificial intelligence for the dissemination of Buddhism by Buddhist missionaries; 2) analyze the desired state and necessity of using artificial intelligence for the dissemination of Buddhism by Buddhist missionaries; and 3) propose guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence for the dissemination of Buddhism by Buddhist missionaries. This is a mixed-methods research using questionnaires and interviews as research instruments. The sample population consisted of 165 monks/individuals. Data was analyzed using percentages, means, standard deviations, and descriptive analysis. The research findings revealed: 1) The current and desired state and necessity of using artificial intelligence for the dissemination of Buddhism by Buddhist missionaries showed that the important needs were: (1) the artificial intelligence technology to be used must be readily available and stable enough for practical use; (2) users must be able to easily learn and use the artificial intelligence technology, and it should not be overly complex; and (3) artificial intelligence should be used in the dissemination of Buddhism to reach younger generations or for ease of data management. 2. The desired state and necessity of using artificial intelligence for the dissemination of Buddhism by Buddhist missionaries aimed at developing the potential for disseminating Dharma in the digital age. Starting with an analysis of current problems and needs, it was found that (1) policy and online network promotion are needed to maximize the effectiveness of its application; (2) a curriculum for disseminating Buddhism using artificial intelligence by Buddhist missionaries can be developed; and (3) the application of artificial intelligence for disseminating Buddhism with the objective of the curriculum to disseminate Buddhism in the digital age can be achieved. 3. Proposed guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence for disseminating Buddhism by Buddhist missionaries found that Buddhist missionaries can effectively apply modern tools to disseminate Buddhism while still preserving the original teachings completely. Proposed guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence include: 1. Providing online consultation and answering questions about Dharma; 2. Creating diverse learning materials; 3. Analyzing and understanding target groups.
