Abstract

This research article is “The Study analyzes the Aesthetic Concepts found in the Dhammapada” was conducted with the following objectives: 1) study concept and scope of Aesthetics; 2) study the Aesthetic Concepts in the Dhammapada; and 3) analyze the aesthetic concepts found in the Dhammapada. This study employs a qualitative research methodology, specifically documentary research. The primary sources consist of the Tipiṭaka, the Dhammapada Commentary, and related academic literature. Data were analyzed through content analysis in conjunction with philosophical interpretation to systematically synthesize the aesthetic concepts presented in the Dhammapada. The research results found that. 1) Concepts of Aesthetics; Aesthetics is the science that studies beauty and art from the perspectives of many philosophers, such as Plato, Augustine, and Socrates, who viewed beauty from various angles, including the imaginary world, its relationship to virtues, and spirituality. Furthermore, it categorizes beauty into fundamental and standard beauty according to cultural development. There are three theories of aesthetic value judgment: subjective, objective, and relativistic. Aesthetic experience is the perception of beauty through art that provides pleasure without expecting financial gain, fostering mental well-being, intellect, happiness in life, and society. 2) The study found that the aesthetic concepts presented in the Dhammapada do not merely refer to external or physical beauty, but rather emphasize the beauty of the mind, morality, and wisdom. Such beauty arises from the cultivation of virtue, the eradication of defilements, and self-development in accordance with Buddhist teachings. True beauty, according to the Dhammapada, leads to inner peace, genuine happiness, and liberation from suffering. It is reflected through righteous conduct and a way of life that accords with truth, moral values, and the ethical principles of Buddhism.  3) Analyze the aesthetic concepts found in the Dhammapada; divided into two levels: 3.1 Worldly Dhamma: This focuses on Dhamma still related to the world, a state still afflicted with defilements (kilesa) and trapped in the cycle of birth and death. 3.2 The transcendental realm focuses on true beauty, which is intellectual and spiritual beauty superior to material beauty.
