Abstract

The objectives of this research were : to study the teachers’performances in the Group 3 of the General Educational School of Buddhist Study, 2) to compare the teachers’performances in those schools classified by status, age Buddhist education, the level of general education and experience and 3) to find suggestions and recommendations proposed by those school teachers. The samples were 160 teachers, both monks and lay persons, of 21 general educational schools of Buddhist study as mentioned. The sampling group was selected through the simple random sampling method. The instrument implemented in the study was the five-rating scale questionnaire. The data were analyzed by the computer program and the statistics used were Frequency, Percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation, t-test (One-way ANOVA).


            The research finding were as follows :


  1. The teachers’performances were, in an overall aspect, found to be at a ‘MUCH’ level. Ranking from the top down to the bottom of the scale, the aspect that stood at the apex was that of general performance, followed by those of class control and learning and teaching, respectively.

  2. The comparison of the teachers’performances in those schools, classified by status, was found to show a statistically significant difference of .05 in the aspects of general performance and morality training, but no statistically significant difference was found in the case of comparison classified by age, Buddhist education, general education, and teaching experience.

  3. The suggestions about teachers’performances in the Group 3 included the following : The Curriculum Handbook should be published and provided to the persons concerned and the drawing of curriculum should suitably reflect the contents and time. Teaching media and devices should be equipped sufficiently. Teaching competency should be promoted in terms of teaching development and innovation. Classroom atmosphere should be improved. Scholarships for higher study should be provided. There should be the promotion of monastic activities and propagation of the Buddha’s teachings in the community where the school is situated.
