A Study of Defects in Thai Writing of First Year Undergraduate Students in Bachelor of Education Program in Drama Education and Music Education of Lopburi College of Dramatic Arts

Abstract
The objectives of the research were : the purpose of this research was to study the deficiencies in Thai writing of the first year undergraduate students of the Bachelor of Education program in Drama Education and Music Education Lopburi College of Dramatic Arts. The research population consisted of first-year undergraduate students in the Bachelor of Education program in Drama Education and Music Education College of Dramatic Arts, Lopburi, 41 students registered for courses 300-12001 Thai for Communication, semester 1, academic year 2020.The research instruments were 1) academic writing assignments assigned by students in the Thai language for communication course, a total of 246 issues, 2) markers set by the researcher for use in data analysis and 3) the researcher sets criteria for analyzing the data to classify the characteristics of the detected defects. The statistics used in the data analysis were frequency values, percentage values.
The research findings were as follows : characteristics of defects in Thai writing, a total of 651 times. The most common deficiencies in Thai writing were : there were 516 errors in typography or 79.26%, followed by language usage errors of 77 times or 11.83 percent and the least common defects were faults in the use of words 58 times or 8.91%. Causes of defects in writing Thai language in typographical aspect, The students lacked accuracy and lacked consideration of the principles of correct use of consonants, vowels, tonal and orthography. Regarding the use of words, the students did not know the correct use of classifiers and abbreviations, lack of experience in choosing words that were consistent with the text and the use of language, students do not know the principles of using the correct language level, use more words than necessary or sentences that can convey many meanings, write sentences that do not finish or lack.
