Local Economic Development: International Experiences and Development Alternatives for Thai Localities

Abstract
In many countries, local economic development (LED) is not a new concept. Despite various forms of local development, many Thai local governments may not yet be familiar with the LED concept. The main objectives of this article are to elucidate the idea of local economic development through the review of concept, approaches, and examples of LED practices in various countries and to adjust the idea and approaches to suit the development of Thai localities. Local economic development is considered an important and interesting approach that could help increase revenues of local governments as they have to become more self-reliant.
